THE PIPING INSTITUTE
Introduction
What is piping?
In simple terms, piping is what connects various equipment and tanks so that fluids
can flow through them from one place to another and make an engineering process
complete its function - in every plant or ship or refinery. Same in the case of our
homes too. Even inside a mechanical equipment, small pipes or tubing help carry
out this function. Thus piping is something that is needed in almost all engineering
installations.
Why learn piping engineering?
In a typically large engineering project like a petroleum refinery, or a chemical plant,
or a marine project, piping engineering accounts for nearly 50% of the total design
engineering volume. The field labour cost for piping is also about 50% of the total
project labour cost. Thus piping engineering is a vital part of almost all engineering
projects executed anywhere in the world.
What do you gain?
Knowledge in such an essential discipline of the industry gives you an edge over
other candidates in a job interview. Recruiting companies prefer candidates who
need minimal or no training after joining. In today’s world where the supply of
engineers far outweigh the demand in the industry, it is crucial to be a step ahead
and stand out, to be successful in interviews.
And so…….
The Piping Institute was founded with the aim of imparting quality piping
engineering knowledge to young engineers.
It is a known fact that a big gap exists between what engineers learn from
universities and what is practised in the industry by the experts. Because of this, an
engineer joining the industry has to be trained for months before he or she can
actually start contributing to the industry. Our institute is an attempt to bridge this
gap.
If the engineer is trained well in piping engineering before joining the industry - from
the fundamentals to the advanced techniques - then he / she is ready to to hit the
ground running. This saves a lot of time, effort and cost to the industry and more
importantly reduces the pressure on youngsters to adapt to the industry as they are
well prepared to start out on their professional careers.
